Whose Behind Rec Therapy And More

Hi, I’m Ashley Guay, MAG, CTRS, R/TRO!

By trade I am a Recreational Therapist based out of Ontario, Canada.

I created Confessions of a Rec Therapist in 2019 but in August of 2022 made the decision to expand and rebrand, which is when Rec Therapy And More came to be.

Rec Therapy And More’s mission is to advocate, educate and support.

We achieve this goal through our blog, social media posts, 1:1 individual consultations and educational presentations.

My Experience:

I began my career in health care and Recreational Therapy 9 years ago in long-term care as a student. From there, I’ve continued to dive into a variety of populations and study the best ways to support them, their caregivers and the health providers who work with them.

I have extensive experience in long term care, retirement, assisted living, camps, respite, community organizations, group homes and non-for-profit organizations. I’ve supported individuals with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, mental health conditions, medical conditions and aging conditions.

My Education:

I have a B.A. in Therapeutic Recreation, a Certificate of Achievement in Crisis Intervention, a Masters of Applied Gerontology and am currently working towards a certificate in Retirement Communities Management.

I wrote the NCTRC exam, becoming a CTRS in March of 2022 and became an R/TRO in May of 2022.

I am beyond passionate about not only Recreational Therapy, but about ensuring my time in this field is purposeful. That everyone has a place to turn, a place they can trust.

Rec Therapy And More for me is:

  • An opportunity to educate others on Recreational Therapy and other supports they have available to them
  • Teaching those to be advocates for themselves, for their loved ones and/or for their patients/residents
  • Providing a place where individuals can ask questions and get honest answers
  • An support system for caregivers, for loved one and health care professionals winding their way through the health care system
